Coming Home

Spent an incredible day with the Saski family, sharing bits of their joy as their family was all together for the first time today. My heart is over-flowing and I am so blessed that I could spend this day with them, capturing their first day home as a family and loving on Chelley and Naika. I am undone. After waiting for the Haitian daughters for 2.5 years, this is the day that the girls finally met their sisters and the whole Saski family was finally together. When they walked through the doors of their new home today, it felt completely surreal and normal. it didn’t feel forced or awkward or weird, it felt complete. It felt like they were just finally coming home. The best way I can describe the day was that it felt like Christmas afternoon. after the chaos and the presents, when the house is filled with a sigh of relief, with happiness, with content. After the buzz of showing the girls their new rooms and toys and all of the excitement died down, everyone just naturally settled into life. They so gracefully fell into their new normal. It was so beautiful to experience that with them today. My heart is so full.

Chelley was the happiest little girl I ever did see. She was BOUNCING off the walls - she didn’t walk, she hopped. She wanted to see everything and love on everyone (including me! I got the biggest Chelley hugs unprompted)! Chelley and Annika are already best friends. Within an hour, they were chasing each other around the house and playing together! I also found once that they were snuggled up on the couch together watching a movie. They may not speak the same language, but sisters are sisters and my oh my was that evident! Naika was a little more unsure and overwhelmed by everything, clinging to mama and slightly scared of anything but her. After a few hours though, she really opened up, ventured away from Karmen and started playing with everyone. She talks up a storm and was so incredibly sweet.

God is SO good.
